106B Springfield 1884, .45-70 Caliber

This has a has a ramrod bayonet and 32 ½ barrel, serial #525523, a 1888
one-piece trigger guard with serrated trigger, and a double sling with stacking swivel on
the front band. This is a very rare ramrod
bayonet model, which proved to be ineffective in battle but very desirable to collect. This is a near-new rifle that was stored in a
humid area. Thus, fine rust covers a deep-blue finish. Use of fine steel and WD-40 will
restore much of the original finish.
The stock is deep brown walnut with much original shine finish. A Cartouche on left side
opposite lock I near new looking, with 1891 date. Except for a few dings the stock is very
nice. The Bore is in near-new condition. After careful light rust-removal this should make
a wonderful shooter.

107B SOLD Springfield
1873 Cadet Model, .45-70 Caliber

This gun has
a 29½ barrel with the bore in original condition and as new. Serial #222388. It has an 1873 rear sight, but both the front and
rear sight have been modified, with a higher post on the front and an adjusted notch in
rear. It has been used in recent times. The barrel is mostly silver, with the receiver and
breechblock silver showing some original case hardening. The lock plate and hammer are
deep blue with an Eagle and US Springfield stamp. The stock is brown walnut with four
smooth gouges on right side of butt. Vestiges of inspectors marks are present on the
stock opposite lock plate. From the butt end the stock was cut to 33 3/8, and either
the same stock or replacement was fitted to original length. This could be redone, but
doesnt look bad now. This gun has its original ramrod, and should make a wonderful
shooter.

108B Springfield 1884, .45-70 Caliber
This gun has a 32½ barrel, which has minor pitting on topside with deep
blue under. All fittings have surface rust that seems to be easily removable with steel
wool. Stock is dark brown and somewhat rough, and appears to have been stripped, stained
and rubbed, but never sanded. It is a nice brown color, and could be greatly improved by
rubbing with wood finish oil. There are
vestiges of inspectors mark on left side opposite the lock plate. This gun will take
a little elbow grease, but to soak and rub with WD-40 and steel wool should improve it to
good to very good condition. It is all original, and although the bore is fair it should
clean up to be a good shooter.

109B Springfield 1873, .45-70 Caliber circa 1882

Barrel length is 32½, Serial #183931. The barrel and receiver are dark blue with a
brownish hue, as are all accoutrements except for lock plate and hammer, which are slivery
smooth with some patina. The stock is nicely finished brown walnut with a cartouche on
left side and inspectors mark below the trigger guard on the butt stock. It is
missing the ramrod, which is available from Dixie Gunworks. Overall it is in very nice
condition, with original ladder sight and a fairly good bore. This should make a good
shooter.

110B 1870 Remington Navy Rolling Block, .50-70 Caliber

Barrel length is 32 9/16. It
is stamped with USN Springfield 1870 above and on the right side of the
receiver. The bore is in good to very good condition. This is a gun that a western
gunsmith probably converted to a Buffalo Rifle. The rear sight is missing. It has two
dovetails, but one has been filled. A fine brass front sight is dovetailed to the barrel,
and the bayonet lug has been rounded off. It has a thin, short fore-end approximately
10 long and has inlaid design in metal put over the screw hole. The butt plate
appears to be from a Winchester 66 or 73 inserted into the back of the
military butt stock. The overall finish is silver with black patina. It was common for
western gunsmiths to buy surplus military weapons and to convert them to buffalo rifles in
the 1870s and 80s. This should make and excellent shooter with the
addition of rear sights from Dixie Gunworks, or could be restored to original.
